The one where we
Hiya, I’m Katie and I am a Creative Consultant & Designer at Nettl of Kidderminster. I have been with the company for just over 4 and a half years (not counting or anything!).
What led you to join nettl?
I knew that I didn’t want to go to university and wanted to learn on the job instead as this was my preferred style of learning. I left college in 2015 initially looking for a photography job but I came across Nettl of Kidderminster offering a full time apprenticeship and (at the time) happened to be down the road from where I live.
I sent in my application and was lucky enough to get an interview. I really liked the informality of the place and, if I’m honest, I fell in love with Elvis the doggy when I was there! I was thrilled to be offered the position of a creative apprentice and the rest is history! I’m pleased to be working with an amazing team who always try and project positive vibes & are so supportive in any situation!
What do you bring to the table?
I think something that I am particularly proud of is that I have grown & learnt to push boundaries from a creative point of view. I like to play around with different designs (across all platforms) and have fun with them to get an end product that looks professional but is also on brand & has a clear message. The more creative I can be, the happier I am and more fun I have with the project!
I also love a challenge, so will try and learn new things all the time both inside and outside of work to aid my development as well as helping to expand our services! As I mentioned previously, one of my creative outlets has always been photography, and I think this is demonstrated in the challenges I have been setting myself during the COVID-19 lockdown, all of which took FOREVER. You can see these on my Instagram page here!
What is your favourite type of project & industry to work on/with?
I really enjoy working on projects that allow me to have fun with them and have the opportunity to create some quirky elements.
This is typically mainly industries that work on attracting the attention of children (anyone will tell you I am a gigantic kid so this works well!), or those that aren’t afraid to do something a little different to stand out and break boundaries of their standard industry branding/marketing materials.
Creating logos & brands is one of my more favourable types of project, but more recently I have enjoyed designing & building websites due to being able to push my skills & abilities further. Now I love to see how I can make a website look completely different from one to the next!
What energizes you at work?
I think the thing that gets me feeling good at work is when we come together to brainstorm an idea and get a solid concept together. It’s nice to be part of a team who aren’t afraid to ask for help/advice when needed which hand in hand allows us to create successful projects for our customers. It’s a blessing that our team is so close knit and get along well, it allows our creativity to blossom!
I also love that everyone supports each other with the interests that you have and helps to nurture it so we can use it to develop our services to help customers too! In my case, I’ve had the opportunity to go out and do video & photography work that I wouldn’t have been able to do without the team’s support!
What quote/saying do you often repeat in the studio?
If it’s not something food related, it’s usually along the lines of “Small victories” which comes from the acknowlegement that all efforts no matter how small or insignificant they feel will add up to something great!
It’s nice to remind everyone of that in the studio when things seem under or overwhelming, and I think this acts as a reminder that we’re human and can only do so much in one day!
And finally, let’s learn the fun stuff!
What are your top 3 fave films? oooo, I love ‘The Internship’, Disney’s ‘Treasure Planet’ & ‘Elf’ (SANTAAAA! I KNOW HIM!).
We love playing office tunes, what is your go to music genre? Not going to lie, I am a sucker for cheesy pop, as well as 70’s 80’s & 90’s!
How do you spend time outside of work? On top of the usual spending time with family & friends, I enjoy learning more about photography, dancing, rowing and playing games!
You’re having a meal out, what food & drink do you choose? I love a pizza or pasta dish and a very over the top milkshake!
What is the best place you have ever visited? I travelled to Thailand in 2019 and it was the best thing I ever did! The country & culture was beautiful, we even got our PADI Open Water Diver certification!
What did you want to be when you were a kid? I went through many phases here, going from astronaut to vet to firefighter!
Meet the rest of the team!
Hi, I’m Dan and I started Pixel Design & Print (now more likely known as Nettl of Kidderminster) back in 2003 in a very snug office at our old Mill Street address.
Hiiii! My name is Alicja (or Leets) and I have been working at Nettl since November last year. I am the digital marketing and social media apprentice that is probably looking after your social media accounts, scheduling/creating posts and doing tweaks on your websites
Hey! So, my name is Linzi – and I have been working at Nettl for nearly 10 years now! My role has changed over the years but you will often find me dealing with many of our accounts and liaising with the clients on new campaigns and projects whilst managing the studio and team.
Would you like to learn more about the team here at nettl?
Now you know a little more about the team, we’d love to meet you and get to know you too! Pop us an email or phone call and we can organise a time to video chat!
