5 Simple Steps To Take Your Shop Online

Build Your Brand On Social Media…

Social Media is not just for being ‘sociable online’ but is a great tool to connect with potential customers. When it comes to building a brand on social media, it does not just happen over night. People are not just going to pay attention to your brand if you have just signed up to Twitter – you need to work hard, make posting consistent and share valuable content, tips or advice that your potential customers won’t get elsewhere or they can relate to!

—Which Network Is For You?

Find the right platform that supports your brand image & your goals. The most popular tools for businesses tend to be;

  • Facebook – This is by far the easiest to manage and promote brand awareness and one of the most popular used networks both socially and by businesses. Don’t forget they recently have released an algorithm to make Facebook more about personal and not business! So do not just solely rely on this platform!
  • Twitter – Another all-rounder, you can easily follow and engage with influencers in the same niche as you and share useful content. It is a fast paced ever changing platform which can be hard to manage and maintain!
  • LinkedIn – As far as business to business is concerned, this is the Go To. A place to promote business related content and connect with other businesses, potential clients and build long standing relationships.
  • Instagram – Not for everyone, but is a great option for brands that rely heavily on images, lifestyle and retail. If you are trying to reach a younger audience, this is a great tool.
  • Google+ – This hasn’t taken off as well as many predicted, it can be a great place to connect with those in the technology or engineering industry.

—Valuable Shareable Content!

By creating useful content that provides value, advice and tips for your audience, you will create a stronger brand reputation and something that viewers will want to share then in turn growing your audience. Things to consider when creating your content for social sharing;

  • Relevance – Every article you write or content you share should be relevant to your business, industry or brand image. Humour is sometimes a more difficult subject to pull off professionally so be careful when it comes to sharing Memes or infographics.
  • Content Type – This is dependant on the type of platform you are using but in most cases, you can choose to post articles, images, video or posts. You should try to figure out which content is most likely to gain more engagement and visibility with your audience. Images and Video seem to resonate better than plain written blog posts, but you need to be able to measure your results!
  • Visual Freedom – Don’t be afraid to use visual content if you are not used to it! It could be a good way of increasing traffic. Articles with images receive almost 94% more views!

—Lost In The Noise

Once you have chosen your platform, then created and published some great content it is not time to sit back. This is only half of the equation if you have a relatively unknown brand or business. Although you will eventually build your own brand audience through the great content you have created, you need to be prepared to take your time before you see the results.

A faster approach for you to not get lost in the noise is to interact more with your industry and audience you are looking to connect with more. You can do this by:

  • Mentions – Mention influencers, businesses or your audiences names within your posts or content pieces. Share their content and get them to do the same.
  • Tag Content – If you write any unique content that refers to an influencer or business, tag them into the post or article so they get notified and can see the post. It is likely they will share your content too!
  • Let Them Know – If you mention a business or someone within your content, get their contact details and let them know they have been featured!

The goal is to get them to share your content and create more engagement and in turn build a bigger audience!

—Promote Content!

Finally, since we all are becoming more aware that networks such as Facebook and Instagram have algorithms in place to diminish organic reach, paid campaigns and adverts may be better options for building your brand on social networks. You can do this with general brand awareness, incentives or competitions to help gain visibility and generate leads.

If you do go down this route of using paid advertising, you must be prepared to give this time and measure success for this strategy to work.  You will need to track and monitor each campaign, look at the analytics and see how well you are doing on that particular platform and if the message or goal is achieving.

Remember – do not give up! Give it a few months, measure and measure again! Tweak and try new strategies and then see what your return on investment has been!
